Why do Christians say Jesus is the only way to God?

Isn’t it arrogant for Christians to claim that Jesus is the only way to reach God?

What about the millions of people who follow other religions? Do Christians think that they are better than everyone else?

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14 v 6

Jesus himself said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, none can come to the God except through me.”

We might think this is arrogant or foolish, but when we see Jesus’ power and character, we will want to take Him seriously and try to understand what lies behind His words. How does Jesus open the way to God? What is the barrier? Most religions teach that God has given human beings certain laws to live by. To obey God’s laws fully, our motives, thinking, speech and actions need to be holy and perfect. None of us have reached this standard. Because of this problem we cannot come to god by our own efforts. The only way to approach Him is to ask for his mercy, which He has provided through the Lord Jesus Christ.

When Jesus came into the world, He came to meet our greatest need, the forgiveness of sins. He brought something completely new; no other religious leader has claimed to pay the penalty for our sins, only Jesus did. That is why Jesus said that He is the only way to God.
